Doctrine and Devotion: A Men’s Apprenticeship
Brothers, join us.
Starting on February 7th we will meet Friday mornings from 5:30 – 7:00 am. We will sing, study, exhort, discuss, think, train, challenge, laugh, grow, and pray.
Who should come?
Men who are members of or have started the membership process at Cornerstone Bible Church, and who desire to grow in doctrine and devotion, in the knowledge of God and the life of godliness.
This inaugural session will run weekly from February 7th through May 1st. We will be giving attention to the Doctrine of God by working through a biblical study titled The One True God put together by Paul Washer [we will provide this material]. We will also be examining the wonderful example of the Puritans in uniting doctrine and devotion, belief and practice, through readings and discussion from A Quest for Godliness: The Puritan Vision of the Christian Life by J. I. Packer.
What will be required?
First, you will need to prayerfully work through the biblical material in the One True God study each week. Second, you will need to read the selected portion of A Quest for Godliness. Third, we will need to be disciplined in coming to the meetings on time and ready to engage. Fourth, you will need to be prepared to be stretched and strengthened.
For those brothers who may have some desire for the office of overseer (pastor/elder) 1 Tim. 3:1, there will be additional components of guided ministry engagement with feedback and assessment. Our vision is that as a whole there will be 4 to 6 sessions (spanning 2 to 3 years). However, you only need to commit to one session at a time (usually around 13 weeks). Doctrine and Devotion is intended to be one of the means by which we as pastors execute our clear mandate to raise up elder qualified men in obedience to 2 Tim. 2:2 “and what you have heard from me in the presence of many witnesses entrust to faithful men, who will be able to teach others also.”
What you need to do if you are interested: First, contact pastor Eric. Second, order A Quest for Godliness by J. I. Packer right away. The One True God material will be provided.
Join us, brothers.
